JSC ORPE Technologiya named after A.G.Romashin started manufacturing new civil products intended for metallurgy

20 July 2018
JSC ORPE Technologiya named after A.G.Romashin as a member of JSC RT-Chemcomposite Holding Company belonging to Rostec Corporation has launched the production of the silica ceramic covers for temperature sensors to be used in metallurgy and at the engineering plants for high-temperature processing. 90% of all the technological operations in the field of metallurgy require the usage of temperature sensors. The quality of the metallurgical products directly depends on the measurement accuracy, because of the fact that the physical characteristics of the final alloy depend on the temperature control in the melting process. The products created with the application of defense technologies are able to sustain up to 10 steel melt dippings at a temperature of 1500 °C and can perfectly withstand a heat shock securing the sensor.

“The enterprises in the structure of the State Corporation show a great potential in the area of military production conversion. The existing practices and technologies can be effectively implemented for civil product manufacturing within the short timeframes. For example, we totally needed two months to produce the test samples of ceramic covers for temperature control in the high-temperature environment”, said the Industrial Director of the Armour Cluster of Rostec Corporation Sergey Abramov.

The new products were developed under the order of domestic manufacturers of temperature sensors. Using the experience of manufacturing structural ceramics for the high- heat-loaded components of defense high-speed aircraft, the scientists and engineers of ORPE Technologiya managed to achieve the characteristics specified. The results of comparative tests have shown that characteristics of the products of the Obninsk Enterprise exceed thermodurability of the covers previously bought by the customer and have the best value for money.

“The Enterprise priority tasks are bringing a share of civil production to 50%, along with the guaranteed execution of the state defense order. In the furtherance of this goal, the Ceramics direction is the most promising. All ceramic output products - different types of crucibles with high thermo- and corrosion resistance, solid electrolytes or, as in this case, ceramic covers for temperature sensors – were created with the use of reliable defense technologies and have unique characteristics. It is a good example of effective diversification of production", emphasized the General Director of ORPE Technologiya Andrey Silkin.

The Enterprise has already received the guaranteed purchase order for 8 000 units of the new products until the end of the year, with an increase in quantity of the products to be provided up to 14 000 next year. Now ORPE Technologiya sets up the production of temperature sensor covers up to 900 mm long and having a diameter of 10-40 mm and a wall thickness of 3-6 mm.
