ORPE Technologiya - a member of the holding company RT-Chemcomposite of Rostec State Corporation has developed a unique composition for coating aircraft transparences with resulting twofold increase in radar absorption. The application of the innovative coating provides a considerable reduction in radar signatures for Russian combat air force.

Cockpit windows are one of prime factors of aircraft recognition due to high radar reflection. The specialists of the RF State Research Center - JSC ORPE Technologiya named after A.G. Romashin have developed a nano-sized metal-optical composition for aircraft transparences offering a considerable reduction in aircraft flash radius and thus improving fighting potential and survival capability of combat aircraft.

The nano-sized composition is a multilayer thin-film metal/metal oxide coating to be applied under vacuum onto an external surface of transparences by using magnetron sputter deposition. The composition shows superior efficiency as compared with the world analogues. Thus, along with a high radar absorption, the coating provides high light transmittance and reduces reflection resulting in the improved visibility during darkness hours. In the course of R&D work, the scientists of the enterprise managed to solve the problem of poor adhesion of the coating to glass that had an effect on the composition wear resistance under the action of aerodynamic flow.

“The possibility of application of this coating to the transparences made from an advanced material – optical polycarbonate allows ORPE Technologiya to produce structural optics items with unique characteristics. It should be noted that the area of application of such products is wide. In particular, they can be used in manufacturing any equipment involving the use of stealth technologies”, said Andrei Silkin, Director-General of ORPE Technologiya.
