"The sustainable development of aviation and space requires honeycomb cores of all types. The departure of foreign suppliers created a threat of a shortage of such structural materials in Russia. Therefore, their import substitution and production in sufficient quantity became a priority task for us. To solve this problem, the production facilities of ORPE Technologiya were updated and expanded. Now its capacity makes it possible to produce up to 600 cubic meters of structural materials per year, which is several times more than it was produced before," said Oleg Yevtushenko, Executive Director of Rostec.
The enterprise increased the output of fiberglass honeycomb cores used in production of radio-transparent shelters for radars of various basing, as well as components of aircraft engines and structures of carrier rockets, from 80 m3 in 2021 to 200 m3 within nine months of 2022. Operating at temperatures up to 300⁰C and having compressive strength from 1.5 to 5.7 MPa, this material based on glass fabrics and polymer binders is characterized by high stress-strain as also sound- and heat-insulating properties and is used in production of gas generator panels for PD-8 and PD-14 aircraft engines.
Besides, to date the enterprise completely covers the demand of the domestic aerospace industry for load-bearing honeycomb cores from aluminum foil. They are used to ensure the specified physical and mechanical characteristics of polymer composite structural elements of advanced aircraft. The material developed within the program of import substitution equals foreign analogues in its characteristics. Start-up of its production solved the strategic task of providing the aviation industry with load-bearing honeycomb cores. ORPE Technologiya is a developer and manufacturer of aluminum honeycombs for various purposes.
"The demand for our products has changed over the last year. Now there is a serious increase in production of polymer composite materials and articles made of them. Due to technical re-equipment carried out from 2016 to 2021 our enterprise is ready to meet the increased needs of customers for domestic polymer composite materials both in state defense order and in civil sector," noted Andrei Silkin, Director General of ORPE Technologiya named after A.G. Romashin.
