The unique complex-shaped heated glazing is 1199х1068 mm in size. It consists of bent glasses bonded together with a polymer material. In order to meet the international safety standard requirements the glazing being developed will withstand the impact of 1 kg metallic projectile having the speed equal to the speed of the locomotive plus the speed of 160 km/hr, that is to say 360 km/hr. At present the Enterprise makes preparations for the qualification tests with the following certification of products.
The new development is a logical evolution of scientific findings obtained in the course of successive work on the windshield for the diesel locomotive BR242 produced by Daimler Chrysler Rail Systems GmbH. The heated glazing created at that period was in full accord with the dynamical strength requirements of the international standard UIC 651. It withstood the impact of 1 kg metallic projectile having the speed equal to the speed of the locomotive plus the speed of 160 km/hr, that is to say 280 km/hr.
