ORPE Technologiya Starts Manufacturing Aluminium Load-Bearing Honeycomb Core

ORPE Technologiya named after A.G. Romashin has launched the manufacturing of domestic load-bearing honeycomb core made of aluminium foil, used in aircraft engineering. The material, developed as part of the import substitution programme, has the same characteristics as its foreign analogues.

The load-bearing honeycomb core provides the specified physical and mechanical characteristics of airframe elements made of polymer composite materials for advanced aircraft. The task set before ORPE Technologiya was to develop manufacturing technology and introduce heavy-duty honeycomb core from aluminium foil into production. It is a part of an import-substitution strategy to provide aircraft enterprises with domestic material.

While solving the set task, the employees carried out research and formulated requirements for materials and manufacturing technology. The results of the tests showed that the pilot batches of load-bearing honeycomb core, made entirely of domestic materials, confirmed compliance with the specified parameters. The material successfully achieved certification, and it is already used in the manufacturing of components by ORPE Technologiya for domestic new-generation aircraft.

"We have solved a strategic task providing import substitution of the material for aircraft engineering. By producing aluminium honeycomb core, first and foremost, our company will be able to fully meet its obligations under the state defence order," said Andrei Silkin, Director General of ORPE Technologiya.
