ORPE Technologiya summed up the results of the participation in the space programs of 2020

12 April 2021
In 2020, ORPE Technologiya named after A.G. Romashin manufactured more than 750 units of science-intensive products for the space industry. The products are intended for completing the Proton-M and Angara-A5 launchers, and spacecraft of various applications.

In 2020, space industry enterprises were supplied with two sets of nose cone shells for the Proton-M launchers, and one set – for the Angara-A5 launcher. Large-sized articles are made of domestically produced polymer composite materials.

For spacecraft completion, 19 solar cell carriers, 94 thermal control panels with the total area of more than 100 m2 were produced last year. In total, Technologiya produced components for 10 spacecraft of various applications. One of the key projects was the development of a new-generation thermal control system radiator having the improved parameters of providing the specified thermal conditions and weight characteristics. Application of highly thermally conductive CFRP instead of conventional aluminum alloys reduced the weight of the radiators by 15% without loss of reliability and energy efficiency of the whole structure. At present, the system that was firstly implemented in Russia is undergoing the flight tests as part of the Arktika-M spacecraft.

“This year we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first man’s spaceflight. Yuri Gagarin paved the way to the stars, and we continue the exploration. Our enterprise contributes to this activity. At Technologiya more than 200 employees, which is almost the tenth of the staff, are involved in the production for the space industry.  Their achievements allow the enterprise to be among the best, and their dedication and interest make it possible to create unique technologies and products. We are proud of the domestic space industry, and contribution of our scientists, engineers, and workers to the outer space exploration,” said Andrei Silkin, Director General of ORPE Technologiya.

The successful developments of ORPE Technologiya for the space industry are the precondition for the implementation of not only new programs but also the improvement of characteristics of the projects that have already approved themselves. In this way, during the four-step modernization, due to the application of composite materials the weight of the Proton-M launcher nose cones was reduced by two tons. To date, 61 spacecraft with the components produced by ORPE Technologiya have been launched into orbit. The enterprise is a participant of the international ExoMars program and the project on the development of the domestic reusable spacecraft Orel.
