The electrically heated glazing produced by ORPE Technologiya will protect the headlight of the RA3 rail bus from the climatic impact

Obninsk Research and Production Enterprise Technologiya named after A.G. Romashin has developed and started the serial production of the electrically heated glazing for RA3 rail bus headlight protection from the climatic impact on the order of Metrowagonmash (within Transmashholding structure). The glazing parts enable the steady operation of the headlight intended for the locomotive head lighting in any weather conditions.

The protection screens equipped with the electrical heating system sustains icing, weeping and provide the necessary conditions for the headlight beam spreading. All this will increase the rail buss safety operation in the inclement weather conditions in all seasons.

While developing the manufacturing technology of the product, the Obninsk enterprise team had to cope with the task of the protection screen visual appearance compliance to the original design of the cabin. The headlight glazing is the silicate triplex structure of complex geometry. At the dimensions of 170х81 cm it has the bending deflection of 69 mm.

“Our enterprise also produces high strength windshields, side windows and buffer-beam lamps for the cabins of RA-3 rail buses. Before the end of the year 2020 we are going to produce more than 20 sets of structural optic items intended for rail buses, which are going to be used throughout Russia”, the Director General of JSC ORPE Technologiya, Andrey Silkin said.

RA3 rail bus is the brand new development of Transmashholding (Metrowagonmash). The railway bus can be used for commutation service at the non-electrified parts of the railroad. RA3 is manufactured as the three-car unit and has the 20% increased design speed compared with rail buses of previous generation, which is 120 km/h. First three series buses are currently used for passenger transport at Sakhalin island.
