ORPE Technologiya manufactured a frameless body for the EgyptSat-А satellite

ORPE Technologiya named after A.G. Romashin (belonging to the Rostec State Corporation) manufactured a frameless body of the Egyptian spacecraft EgyptSat-A. The satellite that was launched on 21 February from Baikonur was the third Russian spacecraft with the body manufactured using the unique technology.

The technology of the Obninsk research-and-production enterprise involves production of a frameless satellite body. The structural features of the body enable one to arrange temperature control panels with integral load-bearing elements, thus increasing the space inside the satellite to accommodate additional equipment. The weight of the spacecraft with this body is 15% less than its framed counterparts, and the assembly with the required precision can be performed in less than an hour.

“The frameless technology of satellite manufacture is the enterprise’s own solution realized in partnership with NPP TAIS. This approach makes it possible to minimize labor expenditures and reduce assembly time with design and manufacture of a final product taking less than three months since the technical assignment is received. Earlier an assembly process only could take up to half a year! It is an important advantage in realizing large projects for orbital satellite constellations”, said Director General of ORPE Technologiya Andrei Silkin.

EgyptSat-A is manufactured for the benefit of the Egypt National Authority for Remote Sensing. It includes advanced optoelectronic equipment with high spatial resolution. The spacecraft is able to carry out the survey in the visible and infrared spectra in the panchromatic (black-and-white) and multispectral ranges. The spacecraft was provided with improved optoelectronic system and onboard control system, high-speed onboard radio circuit and modernized solar batteries. The weight of the spacecraft is about one ton. The on-orbit lifetime of the satellite is 11 years.
